Mark E Jewett

Mark E Jewett

I would like to post some information regarding my good buddy, Best Man, great friend, Mark.  This info was provided by Mark's son Matt, and aided by his brother Tom.  Thank you both for the great conversations and emails.

Mark Jewett, born 1948, deceased 1971, due to a construction accident.

Mother and Father, Dorothy and Dexter, both deceased.

Siblings: Dennis, Leon, Thomas, Kathleen (Marek), Dean, Mimi (Rokos), Joe.

Wife: Kathleen Schrader, married 6-16-1967 in Muskegon

Children: Angela (52) and Matthew (50)

Grandchildren: Hanna (20) , Elliet (14), Annika (17), Nicole (17), Aidan (13).

Mark and I became fast friends from Nelson Jr. High football, and continued on till our last meeting at my wedding on 12-20-68 to Sue Whelpley.  I remember introducing him to his future wife, Kathleen.  There were some crazy senior year lunch breaks at 1641 Sanford St. The cast of characters included, but was not limited to, Mark Jewett, Bob Walker, Larry de Jong, Eugene Atwood, Big Dave and Little Dave Youngs, Jim Harryman, Clyde Rundle, Paul Franklin,  and who knows who else.  My mom, Mary Jane, a single mom who worked full time allowed me to have friends over for lunch.  There would be a rush to the house. The record player would always be spinning 45's.  People would be dancing.  Who ever didn't have lunch could find a snack in the kitchen.  Mark made sure that anyone there who was having a birthday would have to go thru the "spanking machine".  One certaincoach/atttendace officer Harry Potter called Mary Jane to complain about the lunches and told was told in direct fashion that "I don't care how many kids are over here, I would rather have them here than on the street."  Talk about laughs, Oh My Gosh did we have some fun.  Thank you Mark, so much, for being the joyful, funny, and great guy you were.  Your family still treasures your person and memories.  Your kids are great and the grandkids are awesome.  Thanks to You.

In addition,  Mark's children, Angie and Matt, both graduated from college and have careers in their chosen fields,  Angie and her husband live in Jacsonville, Florida where she teaches at a high school.  They have two daughters, Hanna and Elliet.  Hanna is attending University of Central Florida.  Matt and his wife live in Seattle, Washingtion.  They have three children, Annika, Nicole, and Aidan.  Matt competed in college track and field and cross country while earning a degree in computer science.  Matt has enjoyed being a sponsored, competitive runner and still is active an competes.  He has been a world traveller, and has a very accomplished and successful career in high tech.  Matt bears a strong resemblance to his father Mark, just missing the broken nose.  You can imagine how proud Mark would be of his family.  So I will be proud of them for him.
