Donna, we are sadened by David's passing even though we know he is with our Saviour. He was loved by many and people really appreciated his willingness to serve. We can look at his life and see a good example of how to follow Jesus. I pray that your loss will be filled in part by many, many good memories. I know our year at your church, Olivet Evangelical Free church, meant a friendly hello from David each week.

Dave Kooi became a part of my life through the church we attended. From elementary through high school we shared Sunday school classes, Confirmation Class and high school youth group. We were shaped by the same mentors, consequently, I have always felt a strong affinity with Dave.  Our years in the MHS Band were filled with many wonderful memories. From practices in the stadium, to opportunities like the train trip to Lansing, Dave's enthusiasm and smile made everyone he encountered feel accepted. Dave's consistent character, joy in all circumstances, peace and reflection were rooted in his faith from an early age. I will miss the opportunities we have had as old men to meet at random times to converse over family and faith. Donna, my prayers are with you and your family. As CS Lewis said, The pain now is part of the joy then!

.As like Joe, I met David through church and Sunday School. I have learned over the the years that a Christian person is defined as a good person by 3 things 1. Loves God  2. Loves their spouse and family 3. Loves people. David was a Good man. Now he has entered into the presence of Jesus. We can now say "Dave is finally home". Miss you and be sure we and the church will care for Donna.

I can do no better than second just what Joe and Jim have alread stated so much better. Dave and I were born two weeks apart, our parents were friends and we attended Olivet our entire young lives. We shared so many experiences, especially Dick Ott's sunday school class and young peoples with the Leifers and Otts. Such good times. Dave was always Dave. Never a doubt. Only saw him and Donna at reunions and thankfully he stayed the same. Always happy to see you and filled with pleasant conversations. Fowever a great guy, of such quality that I can never hope to approach. Comes with great sadness to say good bye friend.

A Dave Kooi memory. Our Sunday School class maybe 6th grade or in jr high. We went to Chicago and went to the museum of science and industry followed by a visit to Riverview Park. Near the end of the day both Dave and I were low on cash. Some how the money showed with a condition that we went on the Parachute Ride. We sat in our seats and the Parachute would pull us up and let go without us knowing when it would let us drop. Man we could see forever and then the Parachue releaed and let us drift down to earth. What wild ride. Think that some of the people in our class were waiting for us to "Blow Chunks" but we didn't. Dave and I were too tough to give in to Blowing Chunks. What a wild day. I think, though I cannot verify, that Dave and I sang "My Kind of Town, Chicago is My Kind of Town", even if we didn't sing the song.

Remember that Dave?

Another Dave Kooi memory: Joe Urcavich can verify the story. As I recall Joe was handing out "gum" to the guys in our Sunday School class. Joe did not give me a piece of "gum" and then explained that the "gum" was really FEEN-A-MINT a product to loosen your stool AKA a laxative. As I recall and Joe can verify that Dave Kooi never forgave Him for that gum treat.

Take no gum from Joe, Ever!!!!!!!!!!
