Richard F Veurink

Richard F Veurink

passed away February 29, 2020 in Muskegon after a brief illness. He was born March 11, 1947 to Frank Veurink and Doris (McQueen) Veurink. He was a life-long resident of the Muskegon area. He graduated from Muskegon High School in 1967. After graduation, he worked at Grants Department Store in the credit department then moved on to the former Lumberman's Bank in the exciting field of repossessions, but he's best known for calling out the winning combinations for several bingo halls in the Muskegon area. He was also involved for many years with the Miss Michigan Scholarship Program, serving as a member of the board of directors and the Sergeant at Arms. He also volunteered with East Muskegon Little League Baseball and the Muskegon Heights Optimist Club. Richard was a cool guy, who didn't let his short stature caused by spina bifida get in the way of living life on his own terms. He loved to hunt and fish. He never met a dog or a cat he didn't like. He could often fix his own cars. He had two sweet rides in his lifetime-a yellow Ford LTD convertible and a little red '68 Corvette. Both caused him to rack up a few speeding tickets. We pray he's now burning rubber on Heaven's backroads. He was preceded in death by his parents and big sister, Virginia Lou Veurink-Winslow all of whom will shortly be going for a boat ride around the big lake in the sky.

So glad we have had reunions and birthday parties to reunite with old friends. Had that opportunity with Richard, an old Steele classmate last summer.  Thank you John Usmail and the awesome reunion committee.
