Comments:

I worked for the US Post Office, 2 banks, a real estate office and then decided to stay home and raise my last two kids. When they were through with grade school, I went to Western Michigan University and became an elementary teacher. I loved it. In 2010, I retired after teaching 18 years at Churchill Elementary in the Mona Shores System. Now I'm having fun doing what ever I want.

Since retiring, my husband and I have hosted marriage seminars and taught Dave Ramsey Financial Peace classes.

I love reading everything by John Grisham and own a copy of every book he wrote. I have way too many books waiting for me to read them. And now that I read some (note: some, not many) books on my tablet, my stash doesn't take as much physical space.

We both made it through Covid until August of 2021. And our time with it was spent in quarantine at home, no hospitals.

School Story:

I remember having the winning float for the Homecoming parade one year. We were playing the Tigers. I loved going to the football games and still believe there is nothing close to Big Red football.

Mr. Frank Potter, drama coach, was an inspiration along with Mrs. Marjorie Rice, speech. Mrs. Phyllis Hallgren, library assistant, was my favorite person in the library. Mr. Pool, chemistry, "Systematize! Systematize!" taught me wonderful life skills. Mr. Harris made history come alive and I ended up a history major in college.

I was part of Project X, also known as Team Teaching, and I believe it made me a better student and better person. Too bad the project lost its funding and was discontinued. Team teaching limited my chance to meet many of the Class of 1967. But it provided a lifelong love of learning and many memories.

My husband, Bruce, joined the staff at Muskegon Public and taught for the high school until he retired. So, although I didn't marry a Big Red, I converted one over.

I enjoyed the time I spent tonight looking at the updated profiles and some new ones. It brought back a lot of good memories. Some good friends are now In Memory :-( Didn't we have a great time in high school? I directed The Mouse That Roared my senior year so I looked up some of you. Remember Mr. Frank Poppins? He mentored me along with Mrs. Marjorie Rice (speech.)

I'm enjoying the daffodils and hyacinths I planted last fall. I think they ALL came up. So cheery for this gray time of year. Just planted some fun stuff for this summer. Now pray for no snow. Remember it's Michigan.

My husband and I work almost all of the elections for Norton Shores. It's a great way to see my neighbors and also a lot of my former students. I taught at Churchill Elementary (Mona Shores) and my former 2nd graders do NOT look the same when they come in to vote. If you're interested in public service, contact your city or township clerk to sign up. They'll provide the training. The need for workers is great especially with the events of the last few elections.

My true love, Bruce, graduated from Fruitport a year ahead of me. I met him when my boyfriend, Curt Melton, introduced me to him. Yup, that's the truth... I left Curt for his best friend. 55 years this next July (2023.) I made a great choice.

Our 3 daughters bring us great joy. Two are educators., The third works for Trinity Medical Systems. Our oldest grandson is 22 and the last one is 4. Love them both to pieces. Then there are two 19 year old granddaughters and Juli is 14. I am so proud of them. Being a grandma is almost as fun as being Big Red!

Donna, we are sadened by David's passing even though we know he is with our Saviour. He was loved by many and people really appreciated his willingness to serve. We can look at his life and see a good example of how to follow Jesus. I pray that your loss will be filled in part by many, many good memories. I know our year at your church, Olivet Evangelical Free church, meant a friendly hello from David each week.

Our Mom passed this summer. She was the last of her generation on my side of the family. She was 96. I'm feeling the responsibility of being the oldest generation now. I hope I can be as good at it as she was.

Can't believe I used to look like this. But maybe all of you remember this look.
